Use WCB sponsored training-on-the-job to your business’ advantage
Everyday we hear of sports heroes who were spectacular players, but after an injury had to look for different ways to use their talents. Once they learned the necessary skills, new stardom was found as a coach, announcer, advertiser, or businessperson.
Change was possible because their injury did not stop them. Rather, it created new opportunities.
Through the WCB Training-on-the-Job (TOJ) program you too can provide someone the necessary skills to find new stardom - while we subsidize their training. WCB Policy also removes your liability for claim costs if the trainee is injured, or re-injured during the training process.
Eligibility Criteria
Employer needs to be able to provide employment to individuals with varying degrees of restrictions. Individuals who have preferred knowledge and skills, but cannot return to their previous occupation due to restrictions.
It is easy to take advantage of this great business opportunity. If a potential employee approaches you with our TOJ options, you only need to:
- Interview the candidate and check references. Do they have what is right for the job?
- Contact WCB to work out the TOJ details. We'll help you:
- Identify what on-the-job training is needed. Our job developers can help discuss your needs and develop a training plan.
- Determine the costs of training and then subsidize the cost of salary during training. Typically subsidies are provided on a graduated scale for first one (1) to four (4) months until you have a fully qualified, permanent employee.
- Decide what short-term courses may be required. We can cover these costs while they work.
- By visiting your work-site. Experienced job developers and occupational health professionals will be there to back you up throughout the training process.
