Program Elements
Job Skills Training is occupationally focused training that may be integrated with applied academics and general employability skills. All programs must teach skills that are in demand by local employers and provide evidence that the graduates of the programs will find work in occupations related to their training. Program includes classroom-based and workplace-based training.
- Occupational Training: classroom-based training that is occupation-specific and focused on helping clients acquire the job specific skills needed to improve their employment status
- Integrated Training: skill-based training that combines job-related skills, work experience, employability and/or essential skills, and academic related and/or English as a Second language training
- Workplace Training: establishes partnerships with employers to hire and train individuals and provides an alternative to classroom-based training. At program completion, employees are expected to continue working with the employer
Self Employment Program
Provides formal instruction in business plan development, business counseling, coaching, guidance and follow-up during business plan implementation
Disability Related Employment Supports - DRES
Provides employment and training supports to people with disabilities to help them overcome the barriers to employment created by their disability. DRES is also available to support eligible individuals in Work Foundations, Training for Work and Career Information programs.
Transitional Vocational Program (TVP) is a specialized program element under Training for Work. The objective of TVP is to provide eligible individuals with training and guidance that will contribute directly to their ability to obtain employment and establish and maintain independence. Independent living in and of itself is not the desired outcome for TVP. Eligible individuals are identified with a developmental disability as defined in the Persons with Developmental Disabilities Community Governance Act.
