Prototype Development Program

Northern Alberta Institute of Technology - NAIT

The NAIT Prototype Development Program (PDP), formed in April 2006, is funded by a Grant from Alberta Advanced Education and Technology. The Program is designed to build capacity and services that increase the effectiveness of the regional innovation system in Greater Edmonton and Alberta .

Eligibility Criteria

The Program supports the development of technologies, entrepreneurs and companies through two areas of focus: technical consultancy and prototype development including the testing of designs and processes.

A strong knowledge-based economy requires the continuous creation and commercialization of new ideas and technologies. Both prototype development and technology demonstration projects are key drivers in gaining the attention and support of potential licensees and customers. The NAIT Prototype Development Program works collaboratively with industry partners in the community to build capacity in the innovation space in Alberta to evaluate and develop new ideas and services.

NAIT is uniquely positioned in Alberta’s innovation spectrum to meet the needs of inventors and entrepreneurs. With its practical education and hands-on training, NAIT has the ability to bridge the gap from idea to product. The NAIT Prototype Development Program works closely with TEC Edmonton and Northern Alberta Business Incubator (NABI) in addition to inventors and industry to provide relevant cost shared services that are needed in today’s market.

With the vast array of expertise and resources provided by over 200 programs at NAIT, PDP personnel work with faculty, students and industry to facilitate the process of technology commercialization.
