AHFMR - Technology Commercialization program

The Alberta Heritage Foundation for Medical Research (AHFMR) Technology Commercialization (TC) program assists Alberta innovators with the transfer of new ideas and scientific findings into successful commercial health-related products and processes. The TC program is structured to promote research / industry / business collaboration.

Eligibility Criteria

Applications to the Technology Commercialization program are accepted from individuals, private industry, universities, colleges and hospitals. To be eligible for participation, your project must meet all of the following criteria:
  • Show promise for real commercial success
  • Be Alberta-based
  • Be health-related
  • Have a unique scientific / engineering / intellectual contribution

When considering an application from an organization, the following will be used as a guideline:

  • Maximum three years continuous operating history
  • Assets under $5 million
  • Annual sales under $1 million
  • Organization is not controlled by a company with assets over $5 million or annual sales over $1 million

AHFMR may require copies of recent financial statements and other corporate information.

The program has three funding phases ranging from $35,000 to $500,000 for commercialization activities. Applications are welcome from individuals in industry, as well as academia. Applications can be submitted at any time. Review meetings are held approximately four times a year.
